AFES Wives

I have just returned from a great weekend away. Husband works for AFES, who employ staff to encourage and witness to Christian students on university campuses across the country. For one weekend every two years, the wives of those staff gather to encourage one another, learn together and lift our vision from our own campus to see the amazing work God is doing on campuses all over the country.

I went two years ago and was thrilled to be able to return again this year. Student ministry can leave wives in an interesting position. The family are in full-time ministry, but not at a church. They often want to help on campus, but life stage can prevent it. Therefore it's wonderful for women who all have similar lives to encourage one another and share the different ways their families interact with the ministry.

We heard talks from the Psalms, went to a couple of seminars and had a lot of time to pray in small groups. All were great, but I find the prayer groups a highlight. We share in depth and are able to support one another through the ups and downs of life.

I come back so energised about student ministry, often with more ideas than we could possibly implement, but with many things to think about; and yet again convinced of the need for student workers on campus and the crucial ministry that AFES does.

I was hoping you might be there too Jean! If you want to do some early planning, it's on again next year (2012, not 2013), first weekend in November.
