It sounds like it would make things much worse, I know! But it forces you to organize your life in a way so that you are not so busy. You can't "Just duck down to the shops to get..." and you have to be organized enough to know when the train leaves and you have to be prepared to take the time to walk somewhere if you really want to get there.
